Autumn means art or what

With the crisp days of autumn come changing of colors, sweater weather, football season and of course artful days.

While Filmekimi has served us some of the most anticipated films of the upcoming season and just closed its doors, autumn in Istanbul is delighted to please us with many more art events. Remember you can opt for “Başka Sinema” all year long for a festival-like screenings held in certain theatres. “Las Herederas”, “Kings” or “Güvercin” can be good alternatives for movies from all around the world. Theatre season is also open so make sure to watch any of the best plays you missed last year, such as “39.Basamak”, “Arzu Tramvayı or “Önce Bir Boşluk Oldu Kalp Gidince Ama Şimdi İyi”. Plus, Istanbul Theatre Festival, with its slogan of “theatre is lived only once”, is on its way.

Ought, İlhan Erşahin at Babylon, Şebnem Ferah at Harbiye,Tom Odell (for early birds) and Sophie Hunger at Zorlu PSM, David Helfgott at Volkswagen Arena will be in Istanbul for different types of musical feasts. Get your tickets already!

Design at Tomtom Street will take place between 18-21th of October. With a theme of “a fairy tale of travel”, Istanbul’s most creative neighborhood brings art, design and shopping together. Check it out for concerts, ateliers, bull sessions and culinary bites.

Beyoğlu Municipality Presidential Building hosts “Istanbul at a Glance”, latest exhibition of Valencian painter Jaume Marzal Canós until 15th of October. The artist visits numerous countries and paints their people as well as centers of art.

Arkas Collection’s selection of Post-Impressionist works, created by some of the key figures of the transition from classical art to the 20th century modern art movement is hosted at Beş Kubbe Hall of Tophane-i Amire, Istanbul. The exhibition, which features 102 works of art by 48 artists from various European countries, will be hosted until November 6th.

4th Istanbul Design Biennial's concept "A School Of Schools" explores the multiple dimensions of design as learning. It is a multi-platform biennale that will use, test, and revise a variety of educational strategies to reflect on the role of design, knowledge, and global connectedness in contemporary Istanbul and beyond. Alternative design education initiatives provide a brave space for designers, architects, scientists, engineers, chefs, craftspeople and activists. Encouraging visitors to take a closer look, guided tours are held every day except Mondays throughout the duration of the biennial at Akbank Sanat (hosts Unmaking School), Yapı Kredi Culture Centre (Currents School), Pera Museum (Scales School), Arter (Earth School), SALT Galata (Time School) and Studio-X Istanbul (Digestion School). The biennial continues until November 4th.
